Georgia O'Keeffe Highway

South central Wisconsin was home to Georgia O'Keefe during her youth. In signing a law on March 16, 2006, designating a portion of Highway 19 as the Georgia O'Keeffe Memorial Highway, Governor Jim Doyle called O'Keeffe, "An outstanding and notable artist who has given so much - not only to our great state, but to our nation and our world."

O'Keefe lived on a dairy farm in Sun Prairie until she was 15 and attended Town Hall School, Sacred Heart Academy, and Madison High School. Best known for her large floral motifs and paintings of desert landscape with hints of surrealism, O'Keeffe has been called an iconic American painter and one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century.
