Badger: Although closely associated with Wisconsin miners since the territorial days, the ferocious Badger was not declared the official state animal until 1957. A very popular figure in the state, the badger has lent its likeness to the state's coat of arms, flag, and song, and is even the proud mascot of the University of Wisconsin since 1949.
